Advanced Cosmology


Summer Semester 2025

   The course will cover advanced topics in Cosmology:
  
Theory:
   - Beyond the standard cosmological model
   - Inflation
   - models and phenomenology of dark energy
   - models of modified gravity: conformal coupling, higher order gravity, massive gravity
   - screening mechanisms
   - perturbation theory for scalar fields
   - non linear clustering (Press-Schechter, higher-order perturbation theory)
Observations:
   - supernovae
   - galaxy clusters
   - radio and 21cm backgrounds
   - lensing
   - cosmic microwave background
   - Bayesian statistics
   - New cosmological probes
   - machine learning in cosmology



   Preliminary info to be confirmed. Course begins on April 25th, 2025

   classes on Friday 11:15-13:00 Philosophenweg 12, kHS;
   seminars on Friday 14:15-16:00, same place, dates to be announced after the first lecture
   Students will choose a topic from a list and prepare a presentation (powerpoint or blackboard) of 20-30 minutes on a date to be agreed; students can work in pairs if they wish.
  
  
   Classes on Fridays

    CREDITS: 4
    Participation to the seminars is mandatory. The exam will be oral only.
