NOTE: Course begins on October 17th, 2023.    Classes on Tuesday and Thursday 11:15-13:00 INF 308/HS 2.

The exercise classes will begin the week Oct. 23-27. Obertutor: Moritz Drescher . Exercise sheets will be posted every Monday online here . Two students can work together and hand in a single copy of the sheets. You should send them via email to your tutor within one week (so by the subsequent Monday), adding your name, the tutor group, and the name of the tutor.

   First exam: Feb. 15, 9am-1pm, INF 308 HS1 & HS2 and INF 227 HS2
Second exam: Apr. 15, 9am-1pm, Philosophenweg 12 gHS

You can attend the second exam only if a) you did not show up or did not hand in the exam sheet at the first exam; or b) you failed the first exam.

For both exam sessions, you can bring an A4 page with formulae on both sides and a pocket calculator without internet or any other form of connection. Cellphones have to be in flight mode. You cannot bring in the exam room laptops, tablets or other devices that can connect to the internet or make calls. Please also bring your personal ID.

The course covered the entire script except for sections 5.5 and 5.7.

    Suggested texts:

Lecture Notes (please send me comments/typos etc)

    Mathematica simulation of coin tossing

Greiner, Neise, Stoecker, Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, Springer (recommended)
Pahtria, Statistical Mechanics, Elsevier (a well-known, more advanced text)
