Scanner and Monitor are plugged into a multipoint connector located on the window bench. Flip the switch if the indicator LED on the connector is out. Normally the secretaries switch off the connector before they leave in the evening and switch it on in the morning
The PC gets its power from somewhere else. It goes to suspend after a certain time of inactivity and should resume automatically as soon as you hit a key. If there is no reaction, you have to press the power button on its front.
The standard user of the system is bpa whose password is again bpa and in most
of the cases you will find the system in a state where user bpa is already logged in, or
where the system is waking up from a suspend with bpa still logged in.
However there is also the possibility to authenticate yourself through the ID and passwort
of your URZ account with the advantage to have access to your URZ home directory .
To initiate this, logout from the present session and select AD
in the popup menue associated with the field Anmelden an:.
To authenticate as the local user bpa select BIB2 instead.
To initiate
the scanning , press
the Book button (top left of the scanner buttons) followed by the BookPilot button below.
A panel named 'DigiBook' will appear showing the result of a preview scan
and providing a simple and almost self-explanatory interface for making appropriate choices.
Alternativly DigiBook can also be started by clicking its icon to be found
on the left side of the Windows Desktop.
Things to consider are:
Finally click on Transfer to convert scanned output into the selected output format.
Described Task: Scanning a few successive pages of a book to an output file in PDF format (example).
Put the book on the scanner, align it to the right and initiate the preview scan in the manner described under Essentials, or by clicking on Preview, if DigiBook is already up. Adjust the scan region in the preview window appropriatly.
In the Output Setting area select:
Purpose: Save as Image File format: Acrobat PDF Image Rotation: Rotate 180 on odd/even scans (depending on the orientation of your first page).
Under File option choose:
Save all pages to one file
and specify a prefix for the to be generated pdf-file.
Click on the appropriate scan button ( Color/Grayscale/Text) to perform the scan.
Put the next bookpage on the scanner , again adjusting to the right and perform its scan.
Having finished all pages, click on Transfer. A few seconds later a pdf-file named according to the above prefix and a counting number should appear (on the desktop, or at whatever location has been chosen in the Save field).

Put the book on the scanner, align it to the right and initiate the preview scan in the manner described under Essentials, or by clicking on Preview, if DigiBook is already up. Adjust the scan region in the preview window appropriatly.
In the Output Setting area select:
Purpose: Save as Image File format: Image(*.Bmp) Print Images: HP Deskjet 6980 series Rotation: Rotate 180 on odd/even scans (depending on the orientation of your first page).The Settings button leads to panels for various printer options. The default quality Entwurf should suffice for most purposes. Although duplex printing can be selected, DigiBook does not support this setting. If double-sided printing is an issue, you have to make the detour to first scan to PDF and then do the printing from AcrobatReader.
Under File option specify a prefix used in the naming of the scan images.
Click on the appropriate scan button ( Color/Grayscale/Text) to perform the scan. For non-coloured material in books, Text mode does very well.
Put the next bookpage on the scanner , again adjusting to the right and perform its scan.
Having finished all pages, click on Transfer. The pages which have accumulated on the Desktop or at whatever location has been chosen in the Save field, will now be printed one by one.
