My research is centered on the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model. A main driver in this is the question why we have not yet directly detected it, despite having ample but only gravitational evidence for its existence with dark matter and dark energy making up about 95% of the energy in the Universe. An easy answer to this question is that the new physics only interacts very weakly with ordinary matter, making it very difficult to detect. Prominent and well-motivated examples of such particles are axions, axion-like particles and dark photons. At present I am mostly pursuing the question how to best detect these mysterious new particles and what we can learn from an eventual discovery.
