Practical InformationDate and Time:The workshop starts on February 23 with lunch and ends on February 26 after lunch. A detailed schedule will be posted on the program page.Conference Fee:We are grateful for the generous startup and support by Heidelberg University and the Department of Physics and Astromomy, which makes it possible to wave the conference fee.Registration:Sorry, by invitation onlyWelcome Buffet:A welcome buffet will allow us to informally discuss on Monday evening.Lunch:Some lunches will be provided at the conference site. For the other days, there are a great many restaurants in close walking distance.Conference Site:The Workshop will take place at the Internationales Wissenschaftsforum Heidelberg (IWH), Hauptstrasse 242, D-69117 Heidelberg, from February 23-26, 2009.Directions to the conference site can be found here. A map of the IWH in the Old Town can be found here and a map of Heidelberg can be found here. Transportation:Heidelberg is most conveniently reached by train. Please refer to the timetable of the Deutsche Bahn for finding suitable train connections (including those from other European countries). For those travelling by plane the most convenient airport should be Frankfurt (Main) from where there are frequent train connections to Heidelberg. These can be found here. If you change trains in Mannheim, you might be lucky and catch an S-Bahn (S1 or S2 direction Osterburken) which continues through Heidelberg main station to the Karlstor/Altstadt station, three minutes walk from the IWH. Alternatively you can take the bus line 33 (direction Köpfel) from Heidelberg main station. Get off at Karlstor/Altstadt stop. In any case travel time from main station to the IWH should no exceed 20 minutes. Moreover, there is a bus shuttle service between Frankfurt Airport and Heidelberg. Using the airport transfer service (TLS), depending on which airline you are using, you will be picked up at the Meeting Point at either Terminal 1 or 2. The service will take you directly to the IWH. Advance reservation with information on the airline and flight number is required Directions to the conference site can be found here. Accomodation:We are particularly happy that we managed to get a great deal at the Hotel Ritter, which is the oldest private house in Heidelberg (supposedly). We have for now reserved a block of 15 rooms single occupance which unfortunately you cannot book online. Just send am email, that will work. Note that for the quite spectacular 90 Euro deal you need the code `LHC'. The reservation for this block ends on February 5. Since even with the sizeable reduction 90 Euros might be a little steep we can also recommend a slightly cheaper but also less fancy hotel: Hotel am Kornmarkt. Last but not least there are 12 rooms/apartments in the IWH which we can very much recommend. Please contact us of you would like any of those, they are really nice, seriously convenient and in terms of price a good alternative to the Hotel am Kornmarkt. Cultural and Touristic Activities:Heidelberg offers ample opportunity for cultural and touristic activities. |
