Title: WIMP Dark Matter: From Simplified to more realistic Models

Abstract

Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) are among the most popular particle Dark Matter Candidates. The main aspects of their phenomenology can be described by very simple models in which the Dark Matter interacts with Standard Model states through an electrically neutral mediator (portal). The Higgs boson represents a privileged candidate for the role of mediator. The so called Higgs Portals are however under increasing experimental pressure and will be fully probed by the next generation of Direct Detection experiments. Theoretically motivated extensions of the Standard Model are normally characterized by the introduction of multiple new states and interactions. Consequently Higgs portals might represent an oversimplified description of a realistic Dark Matter phenomenology. In this talk we will then compare the predictions of the simple Higgs portal models with the prediction of more realistic theoretical embeddings.
