Moat spectrum and the phase diagram of QCD
I discuss "moat" spectrum, where the minimum of the energy lies at nonzero energy. This may occur over a large region of the phase diagram in QCD at low temperature and nonzero chemical potential. The standard lore is that this would produce pion and kaon condensates. I argue that instead, a type of quantum pion liquid forms. The possible experimental signal of such a state is that fluctuations are greatest about nonzero momentum.
