Title: Swampland conjectures and their phenomenological applications

Abstract

It has been suggested that there exist consistent-looking effective field theories that cannot actually be embedded in a consistent UV framework of quantum gravity. In particular, such theories would not arise as low energy limits of string theory and are said to live in the ‘swampland’. In this talk I will discuss the formulation and motivation of swampland conjectures (in particular the Weak Gravity Conjecture), and some of their applications to cosmology and particle physics.
