Title: Cosmic strings and gravitational waves

Abstract

Topological defects are a powerful probe of the physics in the early Universe. In this talk, we will focus on cosmic strings and what we can possibly learn from the detection of the corresponding background of gravitational waves in well-motivated particle physics models such as the gauged B-L. Finally, we will comment on how cosmic strings can explain the signal recently observed at the NANOGrav experiment in a model-independent way.
