Ultra-Mini Workshops on Phenomenology

Directions to the B&B and the department

All participants of the first ultra-mini workshop are booked into Duncan and Elaine's Glendale bed and breakfast. Full Scottish breakfast is delicious and mandatory. Duncan would also be the right person to ask about nice places around town, in case you would like to skip an afternoon....

To get from Edinburgh airport to the city center or Waverley station you can take the bright blue bus number 100, also called Airport Link. The double-decker airport bus is fast and leaves right in front of the terminal. A return trip comes to GBP 5.
At Waverley station (final destination of the airport bus) you switch to bus number 37 going south to Lady Road. Note that you need a one-pound coin to pay for this. Here is the complete map of local bus lines. There is a #37 bus stop right on the south end of Waverley bridge, towards the old town. Remember busses go on the left-hand side of the road, so this is where you will find a bus stop for #37. If you miss that one, just walk south on North Bridge road toward the Royal Mile (High Streed). You will come past more stops...
Once you are on the bus it will take you around 15 minutes to get to the bus stop Lady Road. If you need to ask, then mention the Cameron Toll shopping center, which is right arcoss from the B&B. You leave the bus, continue around 100 meters south on Craigmillar Park, and then turn left. Glendale will be on our left after another 100 meters.

On Monday morning you should slowly make you way to the physics department. You just walk back to Craigmillar Park, then cross the road into Esslemont Road and go on until you hit Mayfield road. The King's Buildings campus is right there.
My office (4417) is on the 4th floor of the James Clerk Maxwell building. Unfortunately, we will have a thesis defense that morning, so take your time. Albert should be there and I will meet you for lunch. The bigger map shows you also the downtown campus and the surrounding old town.

Since some of you are kind of sporty, please bring your running shoes, Arthur's Seat is waiting for you. There is also a really nice swimming pool close to the department, where some of us hang out fighting the effects of regular deep-fried Mars bars.

Unless you do something about it Alberto will take you to a nice chippy for the conference dinner. And nothing beats a deep-fried Mars bars (thanks, Orfgens!) for pudding!
