Hey guys, One week to go - time for some more detailed information... First, could you please check your travel dates as Alberto gave them to me: Graham: 10/28 - 11/4 (7 nights) Neal: 10/29 - 11/4 (6 nights) Dave: 10/27 - 11/4 (8 nights) Bob: 10/30 - 11/6 (7 nights) Ben: 10/30 - 11/5 (6 nights) Steffen: 10/29 - 11/4 (6 nights) Peter: 10/30 - 11/1 (2 nights) You will all stay in my favorite B&B, the Glendale guest house. You can find the address on www.glendaleguesthouse.co.uk. Full Scottish breakfast is mandatory! Directions are fairly simple - arriving at the airport you catch a bus number 100 (airport bus, the only blue double decker in town). It takes you to the main train station, called Waverley, every 10 minutes. The ride takes less than 25 minutes and costs GBP 5 round trip. The best seats are top-front. At Waverley you change into bus 37 (for example). Basically, you arrive from the west and you continue to the south, which means bus 37 crosses the bridge right next to the train station, coming from Princess Street, and follows North Bridge Road across the Old Town. It should take around 15 minutes to get to Lady Road, the bus station being about 100 meters from the guesthouse. Just get off the bus, continue for a minute south and turn left into Lady Road. Busses cost one pound, you need change. Concerning money - my EC card works just fine with all of the usual cash machines. I am sure your debit cards will do as well. There are some at the airport and others all over town. Scotland has their own pounds, but they are just like English pounds, just prettier and minted in a more civilized country. Across from the guesthouse there is a big ugly mall, in case you need anything. The physics department is a 10 minute walk from the guesthouse, to the west (crossing the road the bus 37 went on). I am planning to pick you up on Monday, though. In case you need to know: physics is in the James Clerk Maxwell building (part of the King's buildings campus south of downtown) and my office is 4417. I will be in town for the weekend, thinking about a get-together on Saturday evening. Also possibly a little tour around town on Sunday for whoever is around. Just tell me what your plans are. You can walk from your B&B into town, but it takes a while, so usually you would take the bus. What else? We are very much looking forward to you coming. Graham was volunteered to give a brief journal club thing for our students on Monday. We need a volunteer to speak in our seminar on Wednesday, we also need volunteers for some blackboard brainstorming... I am sure there will be another bulletin some time soon. Let's leave it at this for now. Aloha, see you soon tilman & alberto p.s. As we are in Britain - no receipts no reimbursement. Keep everything to hand it in, when it comes to the final fight over cash!
