Renormalization

Lectures at Heidelberg University, Winter Term, 2022/23

Manfred Salmhofer, Institut für Theoretische Physik

Plan

After an introduction to the physical context and motivations for renormalization, renormalization theory will be developed based on differential flow equations. Key concepts and mathematical structures arising in the solution of these equations will be discussed. For specific models, controlled solutions (i.e. with rigorous error bounds) will be given.

Prerequisites

Theoretical Physics 1-4, Analysis or MMP. Prior exposure to statistical mechanics and quantum field theory is helpful, but not strictly necessary to follow the course.

Event Coordinates

Fridays 9-11, großer Hörsaal, Philosophenweg 12,
starting October 21, 2022.
