Higgs Couplings 2017: Topics

The Higgs discovery is not only the potential final step in finding the particle content of the Standard Model of particle physics, it also shows that quantum field theory can fully describe the fundamental interactions of elementary particles. Moreover, it offers new avenues to test the Standard Model and its possible extensions. Simple examples are Higgs portal models which couple a weak-scale dark matter agent through the Higgs sector and predict signals at the LHC, but also in direct and indirect dark matter searches. We will have theoretical and experimental talks with a sizeable fraction of discussion time on the general topics:

  • Why are we studying the Higgs sector
  • Extrapolations to high scales
  • Experimental tests of the Higgs sector
  • Analysis and interpretation frameworks
  • Precision predictions
  • New physics in the Higgs sector
  • Wrong measurements and their theory postdictions (working title)
  • Future experimental directions

Special seminar

On Thursday afternoon the members of the Institute for Theoretical Physics will join us for a special seminar by Gerald 't Hooft

Discussion leaders

Of each talks slot we are asking the speaker to leave 1/3 to extensive discussion. This is why there will be a few discussion leaders, who will ensure that discussions take place and cover interesting directions:

Jon Butterworth, Sally Dawson, Stefan Dittmaier, Chris Hays, Frank Krauss, Markus Klute, Andrew Pilkington, Michael Trott,...
