Advanced Quantum Theory

Date and Location:

Webex (Philosophenweg 12, R 106)

Wednesday, 16-18

Due to Covid-19 the course is held online via the web conference tool Webex at the same time as announced in LSF, Wednesday 16-18. The course started at Wednesday April, 22. If you want to join, please register here. You may also send me an email.

If you registered and not received an invitation for Webex, please send me an email.

There are three groups for exercises, please register here.

Abstract

The main part of this course will deal with open or time-dependent quantum systems.

Open quantum systems in contrast to closed quantum systems are coupled to an environment. As a consequence, eigenstates will be modified or are no longer stable and decay. Coherence is lost. Understanding such phenomena is important for the quantum theory of light and matter, for quantum computers, and many other interesting systems. Many of those will be discussed in this course.

Time-dependent quantum systems, especially driven quantum systems are important whenever one wants to influence a quantum system from the outside. Applications are legend as well. Also, quantum chaos is important here, i.e. the question how the quantum signature of classical chaos looks like.
